Referring you to the Pharmacy.

Dear Patient’s

We would like to let you know that we are participating in a new approach to improve access for patients to GP appointments. The aim is to direct patients to the most appropriate healthcare professional, which may be a GP or a pharmacist.

We have tested this system and from 02.05.2023 we will be asking our Patient Advisers who answer the phone to ask a few questions to check if your symptoms could be resolved by a booked consultation with the pharmacist instead of the GP, you will be given a same-day referral to a pharmacy of your choice.

We think this is a good thing. Once you see how great your local pharmacist is – they are highly trained and skilled clinicians experienced in treating minor illnesses – we don’t think you’ll look back.

This will also help us to free up GP appointments for people with more complex health needs and ensure that everyone gets treated at the right time, by the right healthcare professional.

We are keen to hear what you think and will be listening to your comments and feedback about your experience of using this service. There have been national information campaigns by the NHS and there is lots of information on the web if you would like to know more.

What is this new service about?

Community pharmacists have already successfully seen thousands of patients for a consultation for a minor illness, following a call to NHS 111. This new way of arranging consultations with the pharmacist by a GP practice, has been successfully used around the county.

 Why are we doing this?

Pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals and experts in medicines with five years of training. They can offer clinical advice and over-the-counter medicines for all sorts of minor illnesses, and a same day consultation can be arranged quickly and at a time to suit you.

This in turns frees up GP appointments for those people with more complex symptoms who really need to see a GP.

Appointment system.

We have found that our current appointment system is not working for patients that are trying to get an appointment on the day. Therefore with the added pressure on GP services during the winter months, we have decided that all appointment we offer will only be available on the day at either 8:00am for the morning clinic and 2:30pm for the afternoon clinic. Many surgeries within Havering are already following this booking procedure, and we hope that it will make it easier for our patients to see a GP when they clinically need to.

We understand that everybody's circumstances are different so please explain to the reception staff if there is a reason this system will not work for you.

The reception staff will briefly ask you the reason for your call.   This is so that we can put you in contact with the correct Clinician.

We hope that this system helps to relieve the stress of getting an appointment at the surgery. Our reception staff can also refer you to other services such as the walk-in centres and the Havering HUB to ensure that you are seen by a GP if we are unable to offer you an appointment.  We also have a new service we offer - Extended Hours.

Our Doctors are in surgery as follows:

Dr Olumuyiwa Jegede - Monday - Tuesday, Thursday & Friday

Dr Ayesha Abdullah -  Wednesday - (Locum)

Dr Mirran Carpenter - Monday - (Locum)

We have had lots of great feedback from patients about both GP’s, so are very excited to have them as part of the team.

PRACTICE CLOSURES.

We would like to make all patients aware that one Tuesday of every month all clinicians in Havering attend a 'PTI meeting'. This allows clinicians to remain updated with any clinical changes. This enables them to continue to provide the best possible care to their patients. We do not have any clinicians on site during this afternoon of every month therefore we are unable to hold a surgery. Our phone lines and surgery doors are still open, so you are still able to collect prescriptions or ask about any queries you may have. The team are still here until 6:30pm.

During this time our patients are advised to contact the Havering Hub on 0203 770 1888 or visit either Harold Wood Polyclinic.   Our local pharmacists will be able to help our patients with minor conditions

Thank you for your co-operation.

With our patients' needs at the heart of everything we do, our website has been designed to make it easy for you to gain instant access to the information you need. As well as specific practice details such as opening hours and how to register, you’ll find a wealth of useful pages covering a wide range of health issues along with links to other relevant medical organisations.

Get Well, Keep Well

Of course we’re not just here for when you are unwell. Our team of healthcare professionals and back-up staff offer a number of clinics and services to promote good health and wellbeing whatever your medical condition.

Join In

We hope you enjoy having a look around the site and familiarising yourself with some of the online features such as ordering a repeat prescription. Whatever your thoughts, be sure to let us know via our feedback function. Comments and suggestions are always a great way of helping us continue to enhance the way we look after you.

Access & Parking

We request patients NOT TO PARK in our staff car park or to block access as this needs to be left free for ambulances in an emergency.  There is a council ‘pay’ car park adjacent to the Queens Theatre nearby.

The premises has suitable access for all disabled patients.

JOIN OUR PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP(PPG)!

We are currently seeking new members of our Patient Participation Group (PPG). The PPG plays a key role in the running of the surgery. We meet every 2-3 months with the Practice Manager, the Secretary and the Lead GP.

During our PPG meetings we aim to discuss new ideas or services that the surgery are offering, as well as gaining feedback or suggestions from the patients themselves. We talk about things that are working well in the surgery, and things that may need some adjustments. Any current changes to the surgery are discussed with the PPG first, so that we can gain their views and opinions on the matter. We love having feedback from the members of the PPG and work towards offering a better service to the rest of our patients, with their assistance.

IF YOU FEEL YOU WOULD BE A GREAT ADDITION TO OUR PPG PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONACT THE PRACTICE MANAGER, EITHER ON 01708 442377 OR HAVCCG.Billetlanemedicalpractice@nhs.net.
